You can decide what you want to be. But you don't get to tell others how to express their identity. As a white man you're never going to know why (red is not the term Indigenous people use and they generally don't like it) someone who is Black or Indigenous have to live the difference between them and the white population. Telling people that they should not care about their differences and the discrimination they experience because of it because you enjoy the post racial ideal of equality in all things (this is how this reads) instead of dealing with the reality that none of this is the way things actually are is telling them that they should not have identified as different because it gets in the way of the sameness being advanced. If the way others are is not fitting into your worldview then and it requires erasure to make it fit my belief is that you have an opportunity to revisit your worldview.
