Nude hiking on the Appalachian Trail

I have a couple of friends with whom I go on hiking trips along the AT mostly nude. We carry something to wrap up with when we hear someone coming our way. But we have been caught off guard a few times. Usually the observers are amused. Supposedly it's not illegal to be naked there. State or local do not apply on federal property.
